Muscle will atrophy if not stimulated, so either stimulate it with weight training or other muscle stimulation (exercises).... not rocket science? Otherwise those that don't are already or will resemble those featured in Wall-e.

Interesting information! I do believe that the absence of decent nutrition might somehow be a factor but I love this info that does give us a greater overall view of whether convenience options are really the cause or whether to look elsewhere.

A lot of good information, but there are studies that suggest the opposite re: body size and genetics. Studies of identical twins separated at birth and raised in different environments showed a much stronger correlation in body size between the twins, and the parents in family of origin, than in the adoptive family. The number I've read and heard is 60%-70% of body size is inherited. But the increase in obesity? Some are cultural and environmental factors, but some studies are looking at other types of environmental factor - toxins as obesogenic. Causation hasn't been established as far as I can find, but in one study of teenage girls, the highest levels of BPA in the body correlated with highest BMI. BPA is an endocrine disrupting chemical and is found in water bottles, the linings of food cans, and more. According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, "When absorbed in the body, an endocrine disruptor can decrease or increase normal hormone levels, mimic the body's natural hormones, or alter the natural production of hormones." Since the metabolism and the metabolic signaling pathways are very much hormone dependent, it wouldn't be surprising if this is part of the issue. These chemicals are relatively recent, most certainly becoming widely used within the last 50-60 years. The first non-stick pan marketed in the US was in about 1961. PFAS, PFOA and many others are now endemic in our environment and are increasingly researched as drivers of disease.

Lmao...since when is the control diet the Standard Western Diet such that the diet under observation wouldn’t look beneficial to the control diet. Nothing to see here. Fiber causes leaky gut. That is undeniable.

Depression and anxiety can make you want to binge eat on sugary food and the sugary food spikes the insulin so much that it makes you crave it again and again. White sugar creates and endless viscous cycle of binge eating for just comfort. I wish white sugar was banned.
